What You Need to Know About Electric Mountain Bikes in Australia

Australian E-MTB Laws and Safety

Most states and territories in Australia have maximum limits for pedal-assist on e-bikes, usually around 25km/h. You can still technically go faster than this, but you won't be assisted by the motor past that point.

There are also maximum limits when it comes to power output of the motor and other technical requirements. You can read more about those in our post here.

Unless otherwise specified, Progear electric mountain bikes are built to Australian regulations.

Other than that, regular cycling laws apply to e-bike riders, such as wearing a helmet, following speed limits, giving way to pedestrians and indicating turns.

Battery Life and Trail Distance

Charging times and battery life will vary depending on the model and the battery. Always read and follow the instructions included with your purchase.

Usually, it will take around 3 to 6 hours to reach a full charge. Once fully charged, you'll be looking at a range between 40km to 100km, but this will be influenced by the terrain, total load weight and style of riding.

Smart riding habits like maintaining the tyre pressure and charging regularly can help extend your battery's life.
